Leia is from Sweden but if you get confused about her not looking typically Scandinavian blond, it’s because her mother is from Trinidad and Tobago. She grew up in the rainy west coast town of Gothenburg but moved to Stockholm when she was fifteen.
After a couple of years in the capital city she had her first taste of Ashtanga when she attended an introductory course at Yogashala Stockholm. After some years of studying TV and film she got itchy feet and moved to London in 2008 before changing the smog for pebbles and making it down to Brighton in 2011.
Here Leia rediscovered the Ashtanga practice when she met her husband Guy in 2012, and started practising regularly in 2013 with Sarah Miles at BNHC. Having studied both religion history and social anthropology at Stockholm University, she finds the history and philosophy of yoga fascinating.
Her love for TV, video, design and animation has come in handy within the world of yoga. She has made a mini documentary for Stillpoint Yoga London as well as a yoga animation for David Keil of Yoganatomy.
Leia’s favourite teacher is Joey Miles, who she finds inspiring, down to earth, knowledgeable and just generally an amazing person. She made her first trip to Mysore in November 2013 and moved back to Stockholm with Guy to start a family in 2015.
When Leia is not flipping and flopping on her yoga mat, she can be found baking Swedish buns in her kitchen, dancing away to soca or dancehall, reading, or eating her favourite food of all time: ice cream.
