This 2 day workshop will be held at the Brighton Buddhist Centre in the centre of town, 10 minutes walk from Brighton station. You can book for the whole weekend or for a specific day.
An in-depth exploration of alignment in the Standing Sequence - Surya Namaskara and the standing poses are like practising scales in music - this session is designed to bring clarity, precision and rigour to the method of practice resulting in equanimity.
Chanting can be an uplifting meditative practice and it can also be like reading Dr Seuss' 'Fox in Socks: A Tongue Twister for Super Children'. We'll highlight the joy, enthusiasm and practical application of applied yoga philosophy from Patanjali's text.
This is part traditional counted class, yet it also offers techniques for counting and enhancing concentration during one's self-practice. We'll explore variations in rhythm: by changing the rhythm of practice we can challenge inertia and 'alasya' (laziness of both body and mind). The 3 key rhythms are emanation (srsti), maintanance (sthiti), and resorption (samhara) - or beginning middle and end. Which part of the practice do you give less attention?
A closer look at the foundation in shoulder stand and headstand plus extra techniques to mobilise the shoulder girdle. Followed by Samputana Kriya - (action of encasement) - encasing headstand with calming preparatory poses or alternatively enlivening the perception. We'll explore the profound effect of changing the links in to this key pose.

Joey came to yoga in 1998 after a mis-spent youth pursuing the circus, martial arts and physical theatre. While at Goldsmiths University studying a BA in Drama he set up and directed the Yoga Society, there doing his practice of seva (service). On graduating he began assisting Hamish Hendry at Ashtanga Yoga London and for 3 years he practised and assisted daily. During this time he spent 2-3 months every year in Mysore with Sri K Pattabhi Jois (Guriji) and Sharath.
In 2004 he was authorised to teach by Guruji and following that taught daily Mysore classes from 2005-2008 at Triyoga in Primrose Hill, London. In January 2009 he relocated to Yorkshire with his wife Donna and their two children, Caleb and Daisy. He started Ashtanga Yoga Leeds with the intention of supporting people's daily yoga practice.
We're offering two ticket types - a day ticket and a weekend ticket. There's also 12 early bird weekend tickets available until the end of July. There is no ticket for individual sessions. The venue is a lovely, light and intimate space with a capacity to hold 24.
