The following workshops were held in and around Brighton in 2011.

The 2 day workshop will be held at The Gardens Studios in the centre of town, 15 minutes walk from Brighton station. The Bodhi Garden has moved on and the venue is now called The Gardens Studios. You can book for the whole weekend or for a specific day.
Ship Street Gardens is an alley that lies between Ship Street & Middle street. The easiest way to find the venue is to walk down Middle street towards the sea until you get to a pub called The Coach House on your left. Turn left into Ship Street Gardens. The venue is a red door a few metres ahead on your right. It has a sign on it saying 'The Garden Studios'.
Monica is based in Auroville, an intentional spiritual community located in South India, where she has been living for the last 15 years working in different areas and raising her two sons.
Since 2004 she's been running Ashtanga Yoga Auroville with Chad Herst, where she has been teaching for the last 6 years, running a regular daily Mysore style program in the mornings, teaching teenagers in the afternoons and also offering Patanjali Yoga Sutras chanting classes.
Monica has received Guruji and Sharath's blessings and authorization to teach. She has also recently received the Authorization Level II to teach past the primary sequence. With deep gratitude and respect she shares the teachings as she has been taught by them.
To find out more about Monica check out her website.
This first asana practice session will be a traditional Mysore style self practice class.
In this session we'll be chanting the first two chapters of Patanjali's yoga sutras the Samadhi & Sadhana Padas followed by a Q & A session. The Q & A session will provide practitioners with the opportunity to quiz Monica on any aspects about the practice.
Experience a traditional sanskrit counted led class establishing a strong flowing rhythm to the practice.
In this final session we'll chant the last two chapters of Patanjali's Yoga sutras, Vibhuti & Kaivalya Padahs. This will also be followed by another Q & A session to explore any issues and questions around practice.
We have space for 23 mats at the venue. You can book for either the whole weekend or for a day.
Feet are the foundation of our yoga practice, but they rarely receive the attention they deserve. This workshop will cover the anatomy of the foot and ankle focusing on those aspects particularly relevant to yoga asana. Many people have high or ‘dropped’ arches, ‘bunion’ toes or simply painful feet. All of these conditions can create joint and postural strains elsewhere in the body; we will explore the way that yoga postures can help understand and manage imbalances associated with the feet. Other conditions covered will include sprained ankles, achilles tendonitis, arthritis, metatarsalgia, plantar fascitis and claw toes.

The 2 day workshop will be held at the Brighton Buddhist Centre in the centre of town, 10 minutes walk from Brighton station. You can book for the whole weekend or for a specific day.
In this first asana practice session we'll be exploring the Ashtanga primary series with specific focus on foundation, standing poses and forward bends. Some experience of the primary series would be beneficial. This will be a fun and challenging class!
In this first yoga philosophy session we'll be unravelling the meaning of Patanjali's sutra 2.3: "avidya-asmita-raga-dvesha-abhinivesha-klesha" - the 5 obstacles or afflictions to clear perception. You might want to bring a notebook and pen to this session.
In this second asana practice session we'll be exploring the Ashtanga intermediate series with specific focus on backbends, hip-opening and arm balances. We'll learn how to move attention and energy into the upper body without disconnecting from the earth/foundation and lower body. This is a great opportunity to come and explore some of the intermediate postures whether they're part of your regular practice or not. This will be a stimulating and invigorating class.
In this final restorative session we'll discover the actions (or 'how to') of pratyahara - drawing the attention inward. This will include some pranayama practice (breathing exercises). A calming and reflective conclusion to the weekend.

Joey came to yoga in 1998 after a mis-spent youth pursuing the circus, martial arts and physical theatre. While at Goldsmiths University studying a BA in Drama he set up and directed the Yoga Society, there doing his practice of seva (service). On graduating he began assisting Hamish Hendry at Ashtanga Yoga London and for 3 years he practised and assisted daily. During this time he spent 2-3 months every year in Mysore with Sri K Pattabhi Jois (Guriji) and Sharath.
In 2004 he was authorised to teach by Guruji and following that taught daily Mysore classes from 2005-2008 at Triyoga in Primrose Hill, London. In January 2009 he relocated to Yorkshire with his wife Donna and their two children, Caleb and Daisy. He started Ashtanga Yoga Leeds with the intention of supporting people's daily yoga practice.
We have space for 22 mats at the venue. Tickets are available below. You can book for either the whole weekend or for a day. We're currently offering an early bird discount (£80) on the weekend tickets if you book before the end of January 2011. The full price tickets for the weekend will be £90.
