Free treatments!

Dear Ashtangis,

I am a fully qualified and insured massage therapist living in Brighton with a background in yoga and Ayurveda. I am currently studying for a degree in Sports therapy and would like to enlist some of your help.

As part of my coursework I have to do case studies and am looking for volunteers to help me. Volunteers will have a series of 4 treatments

The 4 treatments will be as follows.

Patient History (1st treatment only)

Postural analysis

Muscle testing- checking for strength of muscles and Range of movement.

Treatment (massage)- remedially working with the problem areas

Each session will last about 1 hour, the gap between treatments should be about 1 week.

I thought it would be interesting to try to do the case studies about people practicing Ashtanga as I practice Ashtanga myself and am always wondering when, how and why I end up with small injuries, or why I find some postures difficult.

As a thank-you for helping me I am also offering a free Ayurvedic Yoga Massage after the 4 sessions. Please check my site for details.

Best

    Hi Simon,

What a great offer, pick me! Pick me!

My back has been plaguing me for about 9 months now. Recently it’s gotten quite a bit worse, as I slipped when doing back-drops. There is one specific point on my lumbar which has been sore for simply ages and it feels like it’s bruised.

Chatting to Louise after practice today and it turns out she has the same thing. I’ve been going to an Osteopath the last two weeks and have also gone to my Doctor who is referring me to the back clinic, but as I can still walk I’m not a priority on the NHS.

Most importantly I’ve changed my practice on the advice of my teacher and Osteopath who’s also an ashtangi, so I’m not doing Kurmasana, Supta Kurmasana or back-drops until it gets better. These are the postures that where I feel it most. I don’t think ignoring it has done me much good :-/

But let’s chat in more detail after practice tomorrow. I also think it’s about time that this site had an ‘Injuries’ category on this blog too.

    Namaste

    Guy
